Action Films

Action in the public domain means serials, westerns, and low-budget features from the studio era. The genre was a workhorse of program pictures, made fast and cheap to fill out double bills. A lot of what survives does so because the production companies folded or the films were sold off in syndication packages that lost track of their copyrights. The collection is heavy on physical stunt work and practical effects, which is what the era demanded and what the budgets allowed.
