Thriller Films

Thrillers in the public domain sit at the edge of noir and crime, often borrowing from both. The collection runs from studio-era suspense pictures through low-budget independents of the 1950s and 1960s. Because the genre did not require expensive production values, it was a natural fit for Poverty Row studios and independent producers, which is why so much of it ended up in the public domain. The best of these films rely on pacing and performance rather than spectacle, which is why they hold up when bigger-budget thrillers from the same era have aged less well.
