Sci-Fi Films

Science fiction in the public domain covers the era before the genre became a blockbuster category. Most of what is here was made on low budgets in the 1950s and 1960s, when studios treated science fiction as a B-picture genre for double features. The constraints of the era produced a particular kind of filmmaking: small casts, limited locations, and ideas that had to carry the weight the effects could not. The collection also includes earlier silent and serial science fiction, where the genre was still figuring out what it could do on screen.
