1910s Films

The 1910s are when feature-length filmmaking emerged and the studio system began to take shape. The collection here runs from one-reel comedies and Westerns through the first multi-hour features. A lot of what survives from this decade does so because it was distributed widely on safety stock, or because archives preserved the only known copies. These films entered the public domain through age, since anything published before 1929 in the United States is no longer under copyright.
