The Buccaneers
The Buccaneers is a British adventure television series that aired from 1956 to 1957, starring Robert Shaw as Captain Dan Tempest, a reformed pirate who is appointed by the British government to protect the Caribbean colony of New Providence from buccaneers and Spanish privateers. Produced by Sapphire Films for Lew Grade's ITC distribution network, the series was filmed in color at a time when most British television was still black and white. The show ran for 39 half-hour episodes and was one of several historical adventure series Sapphire produced for the international market, alongside The Adventures of Robin Hood and The Adventures of Sir Lancelot. Many episodes are in the public domain.
