Out West

A silent Western comedy directed by and starring Roscoe "Fatty" Arbuckle, with Buster Keaton and Al St. John in supporting roles. The film is a parody of Western movie conventions, with Arbuckle as a drifter who arrives in a lawless frontier town, tangles with a saloon owner, and rescues a damsel in distress. Keaton, still in his early years as a supporting player in Arbuckle's Comique films, has a smaller role but already displays the comic precision that would make him a star. The film features the kind of rough-and-tumble slapstick that defined Arbuckle's Comique comedies, with plenty of barroom brawls, pratfalls, and visual gags. The film is in the public domain.
