Sherlock Holmes
Sherlock Holmes is a 1954 television series starring Ronald Howard as the legendary detective and Howard Marion-Crawford as Dr. Watson. Produced by Sheldon Reynolds and filmed in France, the series consists of 39 half-hour episodes, each presenting an original mystery rather than a direct adaptation of the Arthur Conan Doyle stories. Reynolds wrote many of the scripts himself, giving the series a consistent voice and a lighter tone than the darker film adaptations of the era. Howard's Holmes is youthful and energetic, more in the spirit of the original stories than the austere, middle-aged figure of the Basil Rathbone films. The series was distributed to American syndication and aired on various networks. The episodes were never properly copyrighted and entered the public domain, making them freely available for decades.
