Scrooge

6.6/1019351h 18mDirected by Henry Edwards

The first feature-length sound adaptation of Charles Dickens's A Christmas Carol, directed by Henry Edwards for Twickenham Film Studios. Seymour Hicks, who had played Scrooge on stage since 1901 and in a 1913 silent film, reprises the role as the Victorian miser visited on Christmas Eve by the ghosts of Christmas Past, Present, and Future. The production relies on atmosphere and Hicks's seasoned performance rather than elaborate effects, and the spirits are partly conveyed as voices and outlines. The film is in the public domain.
