A Message from Mars
A 1913 British silent science fiction film directed by J. Wallett Waller, based on the play by Richard Ganthony. According to the British Film Institute, it is the first British science-fiction film. A Martian named Ramiel is sentenced to visit Earth to cure Horace Parker, a wealthy and selfish young man. The Martian shows him poverty and suffering on the streets, and after rescuing a soldier's wife from a fire, Parker reforms and regains the esteem of his community. The play was previously filmed in 1903 and remade again in 1921.
