Royal Wedding

7.2/1019511h 32mDirected by Stanley Donen

A brother-and-sister dance act travels to London at the same time as the royal wedding of Princess Elizabeth and Philip Mountbatten. Tom Bowen, the brother, falls for a dancer in a rival show, while Ellen meets a British lord. The film is a light MGM musical built around Fred Astaire's dancing, and its famous sequence has Astaire dancing on the walls and ceiling of a hotel room, achieved with a rotating set and a nailed-down camera. Astaire also dances with a hat rack he treats as a partner. The story was loosely inspired by the real-life Astaire sibling act. Jane Powell plays his sister, and the score includes "Too Late Now." The film entered the public domain due to non-renewal of its copyright.
