City of the Dead

A college student travels to the New England village of Whitewood to research witchcraft for a paper, on the recommendation of her professor, played by Christopher Lee. She checks into the Raven's Inn, run by a mysterious woman who is in truth the reincarnation of a witch burned at the stake two centuries earlier, and the village proves to be in the grip of a coven. City of the Dead, released in the United States as Horror Hotel, is an atmospheric black-and-white horror film that relies on fog, shadow, and a genuine sense of dread. Its release happened to coincide with Psycho, and the two share a structural resemblance that was purely coincidental. The film is in the public domain and is regarded as a minor classic of British horror.
