Heading Home

Heading Home is a 1920 silent comedy produced by Yankee Photoplays and directed by Lawrence C. Windom, starring the baseball legend Babe Ruth as himself in a lightly fictionalized story. Ruth plays a country boy who dreams of playing in the major leagues, gets his chance, and hits the home run that wins the big game. The film was made quickly to capitalize on Ruth's exploding fame after his sale to the Yankees, and it amounts to a gentle, promotional vehicle full of baseball action and the Babe's awkward but game screen presence. As a 1920 release it is securely in the public domain.
