The Beast of Yucca Flats
A defecting Russian scientist, fleeing through the Nevada desert, is caught in a nuclear blast and transformed into a mindless, murderous creature. Tor Johnson, the Swedish wrestler best known for his work with Ed Wood, plays the beast, lurching through the flats and strangling anyone who crosses his path. The film is essentially a silent picture told through narration, with almost no dialogue between characters. Coleman Francis wrote and directed it for an estimated thirty-four thousand dollars, and it is widely regarded as one of the strangest and most incoherent films ever made. Its reputation was sealed by Mystery Science Theater 3000. It entered the public domain and circulates widely on budget labels.
