American actor, born 1917 as Robert Sterling Smith. Best known for starring as George Kerby, the ghostly husband in the television series Topper (1953-1955), alongside his real-life wife Anne Jeffreys. He also appeared in numerous films of the 1940s and in other television series. He died in 2006.
