The She Beast

A young couple on honeymoon in Transylvania crashes their car into a lake, and the wife's body is possessed by the spirit of a witch executed two centuries earlier. Her husband and a descendant of Van Helsing must find a way to exorcise the witch and restore her before the creature claims more victims. The She Beast is the directorial debut of Michael Reeves, who would go on to make the acclaimed Witchfinder General before his early death. Barbara Steele, the queen of Italian Gothic horror, stars. The film is rough and low on budget, but its foggy Transylvanian atmosphere and Reeves's eye for grim imagery hint at what was to come. The film is in the public domain.
