The Owl and Fred Jones

An educational animated cartoon directed by Denis Gilpin, written by P.D. Eastman, and produced by Ed Cullen for the Equitable Life Assurance Society. The film uses an owl and a human character named Fred Jones to teach lessons about financial responsibility and planning, in the sponsored-film tradition of the 1950s when insurance companies and corporations produced educational content for schools and community groups. P.D. Eastman, later famous for children's books like Are You My Mother?, brought his character design sensibility to the animation. The film is in the public domain.
