Nightmare Castle

A 1965 Italian Gothic horror film directed by Mario Caiano, starring Barbara Steele in a dual role. When scientist Stephen Arrowsmith (Paul Müller) discovers his wife Muriel (Steele) having an affair with the gardener, he tortures and murders them both, removing their hearts and using their blood to rejuvenate his aged servant Solange (Helga Liné). Since Muriel's estate was willed to her mentally unstable stepsister Jenny (also Steele), Stephen marries Jenny and plots to have Solange drive her insane. But Jenny begins having nightmares — the sound of beating hearts and Muriel's voice urging her to murder Stephen — and when a doctor is brought in to treat her, the supernatural vengeance of the murdered lovers begins to unfold. The film features an early score by Ennio Morricone. Also known as The Faceless Monster.
