William Russell

American silent film actor and director, born in 1884. He starred in numerous Westerns and dramas throughout the 1910s and 1920s, including *Anna Christie* (1923) as the sailor Matt Burke opposite Blanche Sweet. He also directed several of his own vehicles. He died in 1929.
