American film director, born in 1889. A Warner Bros. contract director known for films including The Adventures of Robin Hood (1938, co-directed with Michael Curtiz) and The Man Who Came to Dinner (1942). He directed the documentary Target for Today (1944) while serving with the First Motion Picture Unit. He died in 1984.
