William Dieterle

German-born actor and film director, born in 1893. He began as an actor in German silent cinema, playing the poet in Paul Leni's Waxworks (1924) before moving to Hollywood in 1927. He became a prolific director at Warner Bros., helming The Story of Louis Pasteur (1936), The Life of Emile Zola (1937), and The Hunchback of Notre Dame (1939). He died in 1972.
