William Desmond Taylor

Irish-born American film director and actor, born in 1872. A prominent director of silent features for Realart and Famous Players-Lasky, he made several Mark Twain adaptations and social-problem films such as The Soul of Youth (1920). His still-unsolved murder in 1922 was one of early Hollywood's greatest scandals.
