Noir, Mystery
Haunted by a recurring dream in which a suave stranger seduces his widowed mother, teenager Paul Cartwright (Jimmy Lydon) becomes convinced that the man — Brett Curtis (Warren William) — murdered his father. Edgar G. Ulmer's poverty-row Hamlet, made on PRC's tiny budgets with his signature hallucinatory style, proves atmosphere doesn't require money. Curtis's oily charm does the rest. One of the most admired of Ulmer's "stylish cheapies," the film is in the public domain.

Crime, Drama
A crime drama directed by James Whale, better known for his Universal horror classics. Warren William plays District Attorney Jim Stowell, a prosecutor who treats every homicide case as first-degree murder and keeps miniature skull replicas to tally his death sentences. When he himself is beset by the urge to murder, his worldview is challenged in a case that mirrors his own life. The film is a remake of Whale's own The Kiss Before the Mirror (1933), both based on the Ladislas Fodor play. It entered the public domain in 1966 when its copyright was not renewed.
