Syd Chaplin

English film actor and comedian (1885-1949), the half-brother of Charlie Chaplin. He appeared in several of Charlie's early films and had a successful solo career in silent comedy, starring in The Better 'Ole (1926) as Old Bill, the beloved WWI cartoon character created by Bruce Bairnsfather. Syd also helped Charlie negotiate his landmark Mutual and First National contracts and was involved in the business side of Charlie's career. He retired from acting in the late 1920s.
