Pauline Frederick

American stage and film actress (1883-1938) who was a major star of the silent era. She began on Broadway before moving to film in 1915, becoming one of the highest-paid actresses of her era. She starred in Smouldering Fires (1925) directed by Clarence Brown, and successfully transitioned to sound films in the early 1930s.
