Otto Messmer

American animator (1892-1983) best known as the creator and principal animator of Felix the Cat. Working at Pat Sullivan's studio, Messmer directed and animated the vast majority of the Felix shorts from 1919 through the early 1930s, though Sullivan took public credit for the character. Messmer's inventive, surreal animation made Felix the biggest cartoon star of the silent era.
