American comic actor, born Norvell Hardy in 1892. One half of the legendary comedy duo Laurel and Hardy, he appeared in more than 250 films across a career spanning the silent and sound eras. Before teaming with Stan Laurel, he played supporting roles in many silent features, including the Tin Woodsman in The Wizard of Oz (1925). His partnership with Laurel began in the late 1920s and produced some of the most enduring comedies in cinema history.
