American film actress (1894-1920) who was one of the first stars of the silent screen. A former Ziegfeld Follies girl, she starred in The Flapper (1920), which is considered the first film to feature a flapper character and helped define the iconic 1920s archetype. She died tragically at age 25 from accidental poisoning in Paris, making her one of Hollywood's first tragic young deaths. She was married to Jack Pickford, brother of Mary Pickford.
