A MGM star and the wife of production chief Irving Thalberg, she was one of the biggest draws of the 1930s, with an Academy Award for The Divorcee (1930) and nominations across a string of pre-Code dramas. She appeared in The Hollywood Revue of 1929 and retired from the screen in 1942.
