Crime, Horror
In 19th-century Paris, puppeteer and portrait painter Gaston Morrell strangles the models who pose for him, while police hunt the killer the newspapers call Bluebeard. John Carradine gives one of his finest performances as the tormented Morrell, with Jean Parker as the dressmaker who loves him and Nils Asther as the inspector on his trail. Made on a five-day PRC schedule, it's poverty-row stylist Edgar G. Ulmer's most admired film — moody, literate, and shot with genuine atmosphere. It is in the public domain after its copyright was not renewed.

Action, Adventure
Richard Arlen stars as Jim Clark, a pilot running a small airline service out of Los Angeles, with Jean Parker as the stewardess torn between him and a smooth-talking passenger. That passenger is a spy who has stolen a secret military navigation device, and when his escape is bungled he hijacks the airliner mid-flight. The plane goes down in the wilderness, leaving the survivors stranded as a forest fire closes in. One of the early "Dollar Bills" from Pine-Thomas Productions, Paramount's B-picture unit, Flying Blind is a compact wartime aviation thriller released just months before Pearl Harbor. Its copyright was never renewed, placing it in the public domain.

Drama, Romance
A 1929 American synchronized sound romantic drama from MGM directed by John S. Robertson, starring Greta Garbo, Nils Asther, and Johnny Mack Brown. Based on the 1928 novel by Adela Rogers St. Johns, the film follows Arden Stuart (Garbo), a socialite who believes in a "single standard" of conduct applying equally to men and women. She rejects a marriage proposal from Tommy Hewlett and embarks on a romance with Packy Cannon, an ex-prizefighter turned artist, sailing with him to the South Seas. When Packy leaves her, she returns to marry Tommy — but Packy's return tests her resolve. The film features a synchronized musical score with sound effects but no audible dialogue. Early uncredited appearances include Robert Montgomery and Joel McCrea.
