Mary Pickford

Canadian-American actress and producer, born in 1892. Known as "America's Sweetheart," she was one of the most powerful and popular stars of the silent era. She co-founded United Artists in 1919 alongside Charlie Chaplin, D.W. Griffith, and Douglas Fairbanks, and was a founding member of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. She won the second Academy Award for Best Actress for Coquette (1929). Her films include Daddy-Long-Legs (1919) and dozens of others produced through her own Mary Pickford Corporation. She died in 1979.
