The first screen adaptation of Al Capp's wildly popular comic strip brings Dogpatch to life. Brawny, dim-witted Li'l Abner (Jeff York, billed as Granville Owen) spends his days dodging marriage-hungry Daisy Mae Scraggs (Martha O'Driscoll) while his Mammy (Mona Ray) rules the holler with a rolling pin. When a scientist discovers the Yokum family tonic could make millions, city slickers descend on Dogpatch just ahead of Sadie Hawkins Day. Silent comedy legend Buster Keaton steals scenes as the perpetually unlucky Lonesome Polecat. Produced by Vogue Pictures and released by RKO, the film's copyright was never renewed. It is in the public domain in the United States.
