Mexican actress, born Maria Guadalupe Velez de Villalobos in 1908. A fiery, dynamic performer, she began in Mexican revue and was discovered in Hollywood by Douglas Fairbanks, who cast her opposite him in The Gaucho (1927). She became a star of late silent and early sound films, known as "The Mexican Spitfire" after a series of comedies in the 1930s. She died in 1944.
