German animator and silhouette artist, born Charlotte Reiniger in 1899. A pioneer of silhouette animation, she cut intricate paper figures by hand and photographed them frame by frame on a multiplane camera of her own design. The Adventures of Prince Achmed (1926) is the oldest surviving animated feature film.
