American actress who played Mary Longstreet in The Stranger (1946). She started as a child actor in silent films and became a leading lady in the 1930s and 1940s. She won an Oscar for The Farmer's Daughter (1947). She later hosted a television series, The Loretta Young Show. She died in 2000.
