American radio and film actor (1910-1986) best known for creating the character Senator Beauregard Claghorn on the Fred Allen radio show. The character's catchphrases ("That's a joke, son!" and "I'm from the South, suh!") became national sensations. Delmar reprised the role in It's a Joke, Son! (1947), the only feature film built around the character. The Claghorn character was the direct inspiration for the cartoon character Foghorn Leghorn.
