American actress, born in 1905. One of the biggest stars of the pre-Code era, she was Warner Bros.' top female draw in the early 1930s and known as the "Queen of the Warner Bros. lot." Dangerous Curves (1929) was her first Hollywood film. She was famous for her sophisticated glamour and her distinctive lisp. Her career peaked in the early 1930s before she was eclipsed by Bette Davis. She died in 1968.
