Russian-born American film producer (1877-1961) who was one of the most powerful figures in early Hollywood. Schenck produced Buster Keaton's independent shorts and features through Joseph M. Schenck Productions, giving Keaton the creative freedom that produced his greatest comedies. He later co-founded Twentieth Century-Fox with Darryl F. Zanuck and served as president of United Artists. He was married to actress Norma Talmadge.
