Canadian-born theatrical and film director, born in 1886. A veteran of Broadway revues and spectacle, he brought his flair for staged pageantry to Hollywood for King of Jazz (1930), a lavish two-color Technicolor musical revue built around bandleader Paul Whiteman. He also directed early sound shorts and continued working in stage production. He died in 1954.
