John Griffith Wray

American film director of the silent and early sound era, born in 1883. He directed *Anna Christie* (1923), the first film adaptation of an Eugene O'Neill play, starring Blanche Sweet. He also directed *The Hunchback of Notre Dame* (1923) and several films for Thomas H. Ince. He died in 1930.
