James Whale

British film director, born in 1889. A key director of Universal's horror cycle, he directed Frankenstein (1931), The Old Dark House (1932), The Invisible Man (1933), and Bride of Frankenstein (1935). He also directed non-horror films including Wives Under Suspicion (1938) and Show Boat (1936). He died in 1957.
