James V. Kern

A 1950 psychological noir directed by James V. Kern. Robert Young — playing against his wholesome image — is Jeff Cohalan, an architect haunted by his wife's murder on their honeymoon and a string of inexplicable accidents that seem to follow him. When he meets the warmhearted Ellen Foster (Betsy Drake) on a train, she's drawn into his dark world and begins to wonder whether Jeff is a cursed man, a madman, or the target of something more sinister. A moody, underrated mystery with a striking finale at a cliffside house, the film is in the public domain.
