James Murray

American film actor, born in 1901. He was working as an extra at MGM when King Vidor cast him as the lead in The Crowd (1928), a role that should have made him a star. He struggled with alcoholism and the offers did not come; his career collapsed within a few years. He died in 1936, found in the Hudson River, in circumstances that were never fully explained. The Crowd remains his only major film.
