Jack Webb

American actor, director, and producer, born in 1920. He created and starred in the radio and television series Dragnet, the first modern police procedural. The idea grew out of his small role as a forensics technician in He Walked by Night (1948), where he met the LAPD technical advisor who inspired the show.
