Jack Benny

American comedian, born in 1894. A vaudeville violinist who became one of the defining voices of American radio and television, he played a stingy, vain version of himself for decades. His film career was shorter; he co-hosted The Hollywood Revue of 1929 and starred in To Be or Not to Be (1942), but the weekly radio show was the work that made him famous.
