J. Searle Dawley

American film director, screenwriter, and producer (1877-1949) who worked for Thomas Edison's film company. He directed Frankenstein (1910), the first known film adaptation of Mary Shelley's novel, and many other early silent shorts. Dawley was one of the first directors to use special effects and trick photography in narrative filmmaking.
