Howard Hawks

American film director, producer, and screenwriter. He worked across nearly every genre, from screwball comedy to film noir to westerns, and made films for 40 years. His work includes Scarface (1932), Bringing Up Baby (1938), His Girl Friday (1940), The Big Sleep (1946), and Rio Bravo (1959). He was known for fast, overlapping dialogue and strong, competent characters. He died in 1977.
