American film producer born in 1925 who became one of the leading producers of horror and exploitation films in the 1950s and 1960s. He got his start as a production manager and assistant on low-budget pictures, co-producing Bela Lugosi Meets a Brooklyn Gorilla (1952) early in his career. He later produced a string of popular horror films including I Was a Teenage Werewolf (1957) and How to Make a Monster (1958), helping define the "teen horror" subgenre.
