Henry B. Walthall

American actor, born in 1878. He is best known for playing the Colonel in D.W. Griffith's The Birth of a Nation (1915). A stage actor who moved into films, he became a leading man of the silent era and later a character actor, reprising the role of Roger Chillingworth in The Scarlet Letter (1926). He continued acting into the sound era. He died in 1936.
