Harry d'Abbadie d'Arrast

French-born film director (1897-1968) who worked in Hollywood during the silent and early sound eras. He directed Laughter (1930), a sophisticated social comedy starring Nancy Carroll and Fredric March. He was a close collaborator of Adolphe Menjou and worked as an assistant to Charlie Chaplin on A Woman of Paris (1923). His films were known for their elegance and visual wit, but his career in Hollywood was cut short and he made only a handful of films.
