Gregory La Cava

American film director. Born in 1892, La Cava began in animation before moving to live-action features. He was a skilled director of comedies, especially screwball comedy, and was known for letting actors improvise. His films include My Man Godfrey (1936), Stage Door (1937), and Primrose Path (1940). He was nominated for several Academy Awards for directing. He died in 1952.
